Have You Ever Given Thought To What You Think About?
Metacognition: Awareness and understanding of one’s own thought processes.
Metacognition includes a critical awareness of a) one’s thinking and learning and b) oneself as a thinker and learner. It refers to the processes used to plan, monitor, and assess one’s understanding and performance. It’s higher-order thinking that enables understanding, analysis, and control of one’s cognitive processes, especially when engaged in learning.
Chances are that most of us have never stopped to think about what we are thinking about. More often than not our lives are driven by the programs (subconscious mind) which we have either inherited (nature) or the ones that have been wired in our brains based on our life experiences (nurture). We no longer have to be slaves and victims to a mindless existence. Would you let someone make all your decisions for you? Well, if you’ve never stopped to think about your thoughts and the meaning you are attaching to each thought then in fact the decisions are not fully yours. Our subconscious mind resonates with a vibrational invitation to possibly undesired circumstances and we are not aware of our internal dictation.
Question: We look after our physical health but who is looking after our mind and spiritual health?
But it’s ok; we don’t know what we don’t know- A state of “unconscious incompetence”.
When we first become aware that we have the option and ability to become aware of our thoughts and then decide what meaning we wish to attach to them, our consciousness and competency journey begins.
The Consciousness and Competency Scale:
Unconscious Incompetence: We don’t know what we don’t know. We are totally unaware that we are not in control of our life circumstances.
Conscious Incompetence: Now we are aware that we need to tend to our thoughts and become aware of the need to grow and understand that personal development is a deliberate process and journey; a way to assess our skills and qualities, consider our aims in life and set goals in order to realize and maximize our potential.
Conscious Competence: Now we are actively conscious of what we need to work on and become regular in our thought analysis and our emotional health. We get better at not reacting without thinking of the implications of the meaning and emotion we attach to each thought. This is the stage of proactive personal development. There are many mentors, authors, etc. that will help us in this journey. Thoughts and events may still trip us up, after all, we are human but we can reason and elevate ourselves out of it by resorting to our belief that we can overcome. And this is ok because brief lapses in reaction and judgment with a mindful redirection are a continuous improvement.
Unconscious Competence: Nothing phases us anymore, reactions are shrugged off and no one can mess with our vibration. Our vibrations create an aura around us that people can energetically feel from a mile away- we become a magnet- irresistible, undeniable, and unforgettable.
You will never again be careless with your thoughts and emotions; you will never think a thought or say a word that is not in the direction of your prayers.
And, once you are in control of the emotion you attach to each thought, God’s grace is at your disposal.
Go ahead design your perfect life.
